Zeitgeist Reviews
Criticism of the film as a whole.
In the article «Beauty Is Truth», published in the Newspaper The Stranger, the author Paul Konstent said that the film was based solely on unconfirmed reports”.
Review: “Internet idiocy: the latest pandemic” in the Arizona Daily Wildcat refers to the film “Internet bullshit” saying that “witty sayings, fear tactics and a cool, assertive air all enable them to convince the unwitting public of their points”.
At the same time the Irish Times called it “unhinged” and accused it of offering nothing but “surreal perversions of genuine issues and debates”.
According to the author of “The Gauntlet” Jordyn Marcellus, the irony is that the movie was to make the viewer think about his own experience and to reject other people’s authority, but despite this many “have blindly followed the documentary without doing their own research.”
He states that, though the film is “well-edited and is truly compelling”, it “glosses over inconvenient facts,” uses “deceptive film-making” and that “for a film that rails against deception, there’s a lot of deception implicit in its creation.”
Marcellus refers to the fact that on March 11, 2008, director Peter Joseph removed the ‘Clarifications’ section from the Film’s official site, which The Guardian believed “alluded to dishonest film-making tactics that would otherwise help to discredit the film.”
Deleted section was replaced by a “Q&A Section”.
The Anti-Zeitgeist website stated that the attacks on Christianity were a common feature of this film with the movie “The Da Vinci Code”.
Dmitry Bushnev defended the film in the weekly Literary Gazette, who believes that the film gives the viewer a chance to look at the world fuller, more critically, that “the issues raised in the film (especially in the part devoted to the events of September 11), make us think seriously about them”.
In general, the film received a positive assessment in the article published by “Pravda.Ru” “Zeitgeist” – religion, terrorism and the banks”.
A positive outlook on the film can be also seen in the article by Eugeniya Obukhova “Cinema of the universal misconceptions” published in the journal «D`»: “Zeitgeist” where she answers a simple question: how it happened that the U.S. financial system collapsed, burying finance the whole world?
She answers utterly simple and clear. If you had no idea about the mechanics of the financial system, then you will get all the answers to your questions”.
